Minfika

Minfika, pronounced (min-FEE-kah) is a quaint little coffee shop and tea room in my hometown. When visiting home it’s a nice place to stop, relax, unwind and have a hot drink and a snack. I also designed their website.

Design

Like all my sites, I designed it whilst coding it. I find this to be the best way to work as you instantly know your limitations and how things are going to look and work on the finished product. This can be refined and played with as the website is built.

I kept the colour scheme faithful to the forest green hue used to paint the storefront and paired it with a modest use of sienna and off white to keep the tones natural and warm. The darker grey colours on the website were made by darkening the existing forest green whilst keeping the hue. The site was then populated with images taken by the owner which were edited slightly in photoshop.

Development

A multi-page website coded in HTML5, CSS and JavaScript. I made use of Bootstrap's toggle nav and its grid system to quickly produce a mobile-optimised responsive site. In addition to this, I used JavaScript to add some subtle animations and finishing touches that make it just that little bit easier on the eye. The navbar gets smaller as you scroll from the top of the page, as does the logo. The menu and some of the pictures fade in as you scroll and I added a fade in effect to the headlines on every page but the main one.
